Health Benefits of Raw Cinnamon

Cinnamon, especially Ceylon, offers health benefits like improved insulin sensitivity and antimicrobial effects.

Raw cinnamon is a popular spice with a long history of use in traditional medicine. It is packed with antioxidants and has been linked to several potential health benefits, including:

  • Blood sugar control: Some studies suggest that cinnamon may help improve insulin sensitivity. It may also lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
  • Reduced risk of heart disease: Cinnamon may help lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure, and improve blood circulation.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: Cinnamon contains compounds with anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce inflammation throughout the body.
  • Antimicrobial effects: Cinnamon has been shown to have antimicrobial properties, which may help fight infections.
  • Improved brain function: Some studies suggest that cinnamon may improve cognitive function and protect against neurodegenerative diseases.

Important Note:

  • Choose Ceylon Cinnamon: There are two main types of cinnamon: Ceylon cinnamon and Cassia cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon is generally considered safer and has a milder flavor. Cassia cinnamon contains higher levels of coumarin, a compound that can be harmful in large amounts.
  • Use in moderation: While cinnamon offers potential health benefits, it’s important to use it in moderation. Excessive consumption of cassia cinnamon can lead to liver damage.
