Coffee decoction refers to a concentrated brew made by boiling ground coffee beans in water. This traditional method of brewing coffee is known for producing a strong and robust brew with a rich flavor profile.
- Grind the Coffee Beans: Start by grinding your coffee beans to a coarse or medium-coarse consistency. Freshly ground beans are preferred for the best flavor.
- Measure the Coffee and Water: Determine the ratio of coffee to water based on your preferences. A common ratio is around 1 part coffee to 4 parts water, but you can adjust this to suit your taste.
- Boil the Water: Bring the water to a boil in a pot or saucepan. Use filtered or freshly drawn water for the best results.
- Add the Coffee: Once the water reaches a rolling boil, add the ground coffee to the pot. Stir well to ensure that all the coffee grounds are fully saturated with water.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the coffee mixture simmer gently. Allow it to cook for approximately 10 to 20 minutes, depending on your desired strength and flavor intensity. Stir occasionally to prevent the grounds from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
- Strain the Decoction: After simmering, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly. Use a fine-mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or coffee filter to strain the coffee decoction, separating the liquid coffee from the grounds.
- Serve and Enjoy: Pour the strained coffee decoction into cups or mugs and serve it hot. You can drink the decoction as is or dilute it with hot water or milk to adjust the strength to your liking. Add sugar or sweeteners if desired.
